[Build Day 1, Price UT, for Alicia]
Our long, windy ride day was thankfully followed by our first build day. It allowed our bodies to recover and refreshed our minds as to why we’re doing this crazy bike journey in the first place.
The Fuller Center of Price Utah had many applicants for assistance. A difficult job for anyone to sort and decide who gets assistance. At this point, they had two projects for us to work on. The majority of us went to Alicia’s house to work on some repairs and painting. A smaller group went to the next town over to do some painting, yard work, & porch repair for another family.

The goal for Alicia’s house was to repair the car port & paint the house. Simple enough. But on the backside of the house, we found this tiny door & ramp in major disarray.

It was initially built for 2 small dogs to help them get outside. The dogs have since passed, but now the cats use it to go out to potty & explore. We agreed it needed added to our work list for the day.

The team divided up to start tackling the house. One group began painting the front where the homeowner & family had already scraped the day before. Another group set up scaffolding on the side to begin painting there. Another on the back side began scraping paint in the shade. And the other group began knocking down the carport walls to rebuild.

Our morning efforts were rewarded with a delicious, massive burrito from the Gettin’ Our Smoke On food truck. As we were diving into these honking wraps of deliciousness, we were informed they were catering our dinner that night, too. Ah, heaven awaited us!

We continued our work until it was done, despite the rising sun & temperature. I was feeling toasty from the day before, so I created some sleeves from rags to get me through the blistering sun.

The day finally wrapped as the last bits of paint were placed and the last tools returned to the volunteer contractor’s truck. The final pieces of plexiglass returned to the refurbished cat walk. A beautiful day spent making a house stand a little stronger & feel more inviting to a wonderful & hardworking homeowner.
